Maintenance and Repair

All maintenance and repairs must be performed in compliance with this manual, including safety instructions. Only authorized system integrators, or Spin Robotics, shall perform repairs. Unauthorized repairs can lead to warranty void.

Only use original spare parts.

Warning

Always turn off the robot and screwdriver power supply before doing maintenance operations on the screwdriver.

The screwdriver requires only external maintenance, no maintenance is required on the inside. If in need of maintenance on the inside of the tool, please contact the vendor where the tool has been purchased. SD35/70 is not waterproof, proper cleaning should be done on the screwdriver with a dry cloth, with no chemicals, on monthly basis.

Spin Robotics recommends the user does not attempt repair, adjust, or make other interventions in the mechanical or electrical systems of the tool without first consulting a SPIN Robotics certified service engineer. Any unauthorized intervention voids the warranty. Service-related operations and troubleshooting should only be performed by qualified personnel. Before performing service-related operations, stop the robot program and disconnect the main power to the tool on the robot. In the event of a defect, Spin Robotics recommends ordering new parts from a Spin Robotics distributor where the tool was originally purchased. Alternatively, parts can be ordered from the nearest distributor, details of which can be obtained from Spin Robotics’ official website at www.spin-robotics.com .

Inspection Plan

The table below is a checklist of the type of inspections recommended by Spin Robotics. Perform inspections regularly as advised on the table. Any referenced parts found to be in an unacceptable state must be rectified or replaced.

Cleaning your tool

Everyday cleaning
You can wipe away any dust/dirt/oil observed on the tool using a cloth and one of the following cleaning agents: Water, Isopropyl alcohol, 10% Ethanol alcohol or 10% Naphtha.
Additional cleaning
Due to the added focus on cleaning your tool, Spin Robotic recommends cleaning with 70% isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol).
  1. Wipe the tool with a hard twisted microfiber cloth and 70% isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol).

  2. Let the 70% isopropyl alcohol dwell on the tool for 5 minutes and then clean the tool using standard cleaning procedure.

DO NOT USE BLEACH. Do not use bleach in any diluted cleaning solution.

Clean bit head
Ensure that the bit head is clean from metal particles and other debris. Use clean, dry cloth and wipe the bit off.

Visual Inspection

Do visual inspection to ensure that the bits are good, and the cables are connected correctly. See detailed description of every visual inspection point in the following:

Check bit head
Check the tip of the bit head for wear and tear. Ensure that correct contact with a screw can be enforced. Replace the bit if necessary.
Power and communication cable connection
Check that the power and communication cable is securely connected between the tool and the Spin Bridge. Ensure that there is enough slack in the cables such that the robot can move around without posing strain on the cables.

Functional Inspection

Do functional inspections to ensure the tool and its screws, bolts and bits are not loose.

Check screw torques
Use a correctly calibrated torque wrench, specified in below – Torque Values to check the screws and bolts listed in the inspection plan.

Check bit locking mechanism
Check the bit locking mechanism by following the procedure described for a manual bit change.
  1. In your robot plugin, press Release Bit.

  2. Insert a bit.

  3. In your robot plugin, press Lock Bit.

  4. Pull down on the bit and ensure that it is locked in place.

  5. In your robot plugin, press Release Bit.

  6. Remove the bit.

Check tool sledge mechanism clearance
Check the clearance of the tool sledge mechanism to ensure that the safety system can function as intended. The sledge must be able to move up 18 mm. To test this, pull the tool all the way up and measure.

Check safety system
Check the safety system of your Spin Robotics tool by performing a manual release of the safety sensor by following the procedure described.
  1. Ensure that robot is in a non-error state and the LED status on tool is white.

  2. Check that the safety cable is connected from the SpinBridge to the robot control box.

  3. Pull the tool up until the safety sensor is exposed and the LED status changes to red, triggering an emergency stop of the robot.

  4. Check that the emergency stop of the robot was triggered correctly.

Check freedrive
Check that freedrive is enabled when pressing the back button on the tool.
  1. Ensure that robot is in a non-error state and the LED status on tool is white.

  2. Press and hold the blue button on the back of the tool.

  3. Ensure that the LED status changes to blue and that you can move the tool around.

Check the front button
Press and hold the front button to check for activation, if the LED status changes to a rainbow it works.

Check SpinMount quick coupling
Ensure the functionality and fastening of the SpinMount quick coupler by following these steps:
  1. Press down on the blue tap and twist the tool counterclockwise to dismount it.

  2. Tighten the bolt that connects the Spin Mount to the robot according to your robot manufacture’s specification.

  3. Reattach the Spin Mount by aligning the left side groove of the robot side with the groove on the tool side. Twist the tool clockwise until the groove in the middle of the tap is aligned and the tool snaps into place.

  4. Ensure that the tool is properly secured.

Remove safety shield tips and clean
Remove the 3 M2x6 screws from the safety shield tip and remove it. Clean the inside of the safety shield for metal particles and other debris. Reattach the safety shield tip securely.

Calibration

The screwdriver has been calibrated at Spin Robotics to comply with the specifications in the technical sheet.
